Who Wants to Help Save the Rainforest?

Posted on May 3rd, 2008 by Amy : Butterfly Musician Amy
Who want to help save the rainforest? I do, and I've been doing so through a new application on Facebook, that addicting social connections website. For ever ten plants you send to your friends, sponsers will donate money for the protection and conservation of 1 square foot of rainforest in Costa Rica. I hope you'll try it out!

Spring Cleaning!

Posted on Apr 8th, 2008 by Amy : Butterfly Musician Amy
Goals for March:
1. Stop pointless internet surfing.~I'm cracking down, but Facebook is difficult. Any tips?
2. Get rid of my sugar and snack craving and munching.~Yes, today I did! But otherwise...hmph.
3. Practice saxophone, guitar, and piano each at least once a week.~Ha, no. Piano maybe.
4. Milk a cow. ;)~For next time!
5. Make a new friend.~Yay Amy Bavier!
6. Decide which college I'm going to next year.~ Yay St. Ben's!
7. Have at least one friend over to my house besides jenny.~Um, no. Next time?
8. Do some kind of cardio exercise at least once a week, besides dance. No excuses!~Nope.
9. Update my reading journal.~I think I added two. I forgot about it.
10. Stop hitting snooze until the last possible moment. ~Yes. I've been giving myself four extra minutes every day! That's alot when you only give yourself twenty minutes total.

Goodness me, was I a bit unrealistic for March or particularaly unmotivated? Seems like I accomplished alot less than I usually do. Only three this time. How sad. Okay, maybe I need to set smaller steps!

New Goals for April:
1. Apply for two scholarships.
2. Exercise twice a week
3. Update my reading journal!
4. Cut down munching by half
5. Practice guitar, sax, and piano twice. Per month. :]
6. Have a party
7. Update my wardrobe.
8. Reduce facebook dependency
9. Do one spontaneous thing each day
10. Smile at strangers.

Posted on Mar 4th, 2008 by Amy : Butterfly Musician Amy
I return once again for my monthly goals. Looking back, I've skipped quite a few months, but that's okay.

2. Start to get in shape for ski session. Run twice a week and stretch daily. ~Skipped skiing. Started stretching daily though!
3. Practise for flute scholarship auditions. Particularily the scales. ~I got a scholarship! Yay me!
4. Write a 50,000 word novel ~Mwahahahahaha -- No.
5. Make a new friend ~Yes, Kaylen is amazing and funny.
6. Go bowling with my friends ~No, but I'm going snow tubing on Thursday!
7. Submit my college applications ~Check!
8. Be outside for at least 5 minutes every day. ~Well, if you count walking to the car in the back of the parking lot. It was just so cold!
9. Finish the first trimester of school with a 4.0. ~Yup, now I'm almost there for tri 2

What's the easiest way to become happy?

Posted on Nov 18th, 2007 by Amy : Butterfly Musician Amy
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for November 18, 2007:

For me, being happy is just a mindset that I'm in almost constantly. I'm naturally a very optimistic person. Sometimes I grump about and complain, but I don't get stuck in that mood. It helps alot to get enough sleep and food. I don't know... I guess my way of becoming happy is to just bounce up and get happy. Get happy, people! Seuss!

I just looked at my goals for September (I skipped October, somehow) and I was amazed to find that although I didn't make many of my goals, I actually made a few I didn't think I would.
Review:
1. Apply for two more scholarships ~Complete
2. Write college application essays ~Complete
3. Don't procrastinate on school work ~Complete
4. Get together with my friends at least every other weekend ~Still in progress
5. Make at least two new friends~ Hmm, close buds? No, but friends, yes.
6. Start flute lessons~ Complete!
7. Do some kind of cardio exercise at least twice a week~Um, depends on the week. I did this week!
8. Research different career paths~Nada. I guess this wasn't high on my priorities.
9. Make friends with a guy ~Complete! I never would have thought I would complete this one back in September. Crazy world (By the way, he's the greatest)
10. Stop hitting snooze every morning~Hahaha, yeah right.

So I made 6 goals happen! Amazing! I think I'll try this again. I don't think I've ever wrote down little monthy goals like this before. It's cool to see how things change.

Goals for November:
1. Get my foundations class to agree to install school solar panels or set up a fund for future installations as our 'Leave a Legacy' project
2. Start to get in shape for ski session. Run twice a week and stretch daily.
3. Practise for flute scholarship auditions. Particularily the scales.
4. Write a 50,000 word novel
5. Make a new friend
6. Go bowling with my friends
7. Submit my college applications
8. Be outside for at least 5 minutes every day.
9. Finish the first trimester of school with a 4.0
10. Stop hitting snooze every morning

Good luck to me and all other goal-setters!

Hey!

Posted on Aug 19th, 2007 by Amy : Butterfly Musician Amy
So far my blogs have all been in response to a Zaadz daily question or something I wanted to send out. So I thought this one would be just for fun. Like a normal blog. Right now, I'm sitting at my desk, listening to my brother's guitar rock music, after playing Yahtzse with my mom. I don't care from the music; it gives me a headache after a while. Must the guitar and cymbals play incessantly? Especially the cymbals. Why does the drummer like them so much?
Once in a band concert, I got to play the suspended cymbals (normally I play the flute- there's so many of us we're expendable). It was fun, but I didn't want to bang on them nonstop for five minutes.
A motorcycle just went past our house three times. The neighbor kids like to ride up and down the street. Freaked me out because it sounded like a tornado alarm.
Anyways, I hope y'all are having a fabulous day! Peace, Amy

Can't Remember what to Recycle?

Posted on Aug 14th, 2007 by Amy : Butterfly Musician Amy
Recycling_reminder
I'm attaching a recycling reminder that my mom found in a magazine. I've found that my neighbors and friends do want to recycle, they just don't remember. Perhaps this will help. Cut it out, paste it where needed. Or laminate it and attach a magnet to the back. Tape it to the trash can and recycling bin for those family member that won't stop throwing cereal boxes away. Try it! Let me know if it works.

What, currently, is your greatest challenge?

Posted on Aug 14th, 2007 by Amy : Butterfly Musician Amy
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for August 14, 2007:

I'm currently struggling with my college choices. I just found out that Saint Olaf, my number one choice, doesn't offer teacher certification for elementary school. Do I want to hem myself in and only teach older kids? Teaching high school would be just plain scary. I hate trying to come up with replys to smart aleck comments. Junior high... you know how they act. Kookoo! The young ones are just illogical. You can explain everything to them 3 times and they'll still ask why not. So which do I want to deal with? But wait... I'm looking at the negative. I need to look at the positive! Ahhh! I should see what certification my other college choices offer. Anyone know if you can be certified after college? Or at another college while I'm at Olaf? This stuff is confusing.  My goal for tomorrow is to think of two positive things for each area of teaching. Peace out, Amy
